Cycling in Majorca - Coast to Coast

Unique format enabling participants to cycle within one hour of landing in Palma. The ride takes us from the airport along the South coast to San Jordi and then onto Sa Coma , near the famous Caves of Drach and then onto Alcudia from where you make circular ride to the Formantor Peninsular. The final day's ride is back towards in Palma.

Unlike some other events no time is wasted as you will cycle every day. This glorious 5 day on-road Ride explores a wide variety of landscapes on the island of Majorca and is designed to cater for cyclists of varying but reasonable experience. The Ride covers over 320km (200mls) of undulating terrain with a few good climbs particularly on day 4. There will also be plenty of time for non cycling activities in the evenings and occasionally during the day.

Majorca is as little as 135 minutes away from the UK by air and the cheap airlines have made this destination remarkably accessible especially in the Spring when the weather is warm and sunny and makes for perfect cycling. Although the island is quite large 60 mls long , 40 miles wide, in 5 days it is possible to explore most of the island by bike. Not for us is the SW coastal strip which has made Mallorca so infamous. Our ride concentrates on some of the more remote and relatively unexplored parts. The island has a remarkable contrast of sceneries in such a small area - from the mountains cliff coastline of the North to the softer pretty coast of the South and East and a delightful rolling hills interior scattered with small towns and villages which have remained untouched for years and almost totally unaffected by tourism.

MALLORCA ALCUDIA TRAINING CYCLE CAMP
Detailed Itinerary This 5 day on-road Ride explores a wide variety of landscapes on the island of Mallorca and is designed to cater for cyclists of varying experience. The Ride covers over 360km (225 miles) over undulating terrain with just a few good climbs particularly on day 2 and 3. There will also be plenty of time for non cycling activities in the evenings and occasionally during the day.

Day 1
Airport to Alcudia Distance 62kms (39miles)
After bike fitting we cycle out of the Airport and along the coast before heading north towards Sa Casa Blanca. Here we head East across the centre of the island on one of the quiet designated cycle routes and into Sineu(33kms). From Sineu we head North on more pretty quiet roads through Liubi and Sa Pobla before picking up the main road into Alcudia (62kms.), The Alcudia Appartments will be our home for the duration of our stay.

Day 2
Alcudia - Formentor plus mountain or coast and cave options. Distance (mountain) 110km (68mls) or (coast and cave) up to 100km (62mls)
A challenging day with two options: From Alcudia we all follow the coast to the popular resort of Port de Pollenca after which there are two exhilarating climbs along the magnificent Formentor Peninsular to the lighthouse at the very north eastern tip of the island. We return towards Port de Pollensa helped by a short but lovely boat transfer. After lunch the more adventurous have the option of a circular route into the mountains with a great climb along the start of the famous corniche road towards Soller, up to the Monastery of Lluc close to 2000ft above the sea. For the majority of us we will cycle to Cala San Vicenc to take in the sun on the most beautiful tiny bay famous for the colourful hills around - and the sangria! After, if there is time an excursion at the foot of the mountains to the Caves of Campanet before returning to our apartments. In the evening we will eat in Alcudia old town and have an opportunity to explore the night life.

Day 3
Alcudia-Soller-Alcudia Distance 107kms. (67miles)
The most challenging day of our stay, we leave Alcudia early travelling inland along flat terrain through Inca and on to Alaro (33kms). Here things change as we head up and over the Puig d'Alaro and drop into Bunyola. From here we turn right over the "hill" and down into Soller for lunch (59kms). Fortified by a good lunch we head out of Soller and start to climb the Puig Major, (Mallorcas highest peak, no cycle trip to the island is complete without it) regrouping at the summit 9 kilometres later. From here its plain sailing down the other side, turn left at Es Guix (77kms) and follow the road back through Pollensa (95kms) and on to Alcudia (107kms.).

Day 4
Alcudia to Airport Distance 80kms. (50miles)
We follow the coast Southeastwards from Alcudia before turning inland after about 20 kms. Through the small town of Retra and on to Randa for lunch(56kms). Afterwards we head South through Llucmajor and on to the Airport.

This is a complicated itinerary and is subject to change where necessary
