Matt has over 15 years’ experience in the sport and leisure industry, before starting with Active Away he spent 3 years working for the Lawn Tennis Association and 8 years working for David Lloyd Leisure. Matt has an infectious enthusiasm for tennis; he has the ability to coach people of all ages and abilities but for the majority of his coaching career he has focussed on developing and nurturing talented young performance players. Matt has coached numerous juniors of a national level, some of which have gone on to win National championship titles, compete across Europe as well as gain scholarships to American Universities. Matt has also headed up many Regional Training Camps in the Midlands, assisted on National Training Camps and captained two Great Britain under 12 teams.

 

Playing Experience

  • Started playing tennis at 11 years old
  • 1999 – Represented Nottinghamshire at winter county cup
  • 2005 – Gained a doubles world ranking
  • 2007 – member of the Nation Premier League winning team
  • 2007 – Member of the Nation Club League winning team
  • 2007 &2008 – Represented Derbyshire on Summer county week group 1 & group 2
  • 2010 – Represented Gloucestershire on summer county week

Coaching Experience

  • Started coaching at the age of 16
  • 1998 – 31/10/2004 – Worked as a tennis Professional at David Lloyd Derby
  • 31/10/2004 – 31/8/2006 – Set Long Eaton Tennis Club, this was a new club I set up and gained LTA performance and Mini tennis Accreditation
  • 31/10/2004 – 31/8/2006 – Head coach at Trent College Private school
  • 1/6/2006 – 31/12/2007 – Junior Tennis Professional David Lloyd Derby – Matts responsibilities were to manage a team of coaches with an aim to raise the standard of coaching through increased coach education within the team. Matt increased the participation of juniors playing on the programme and designed and implemented a new model of performance coaching within the club.
  • 15/1/2008 – 24/9/2010 – LTA Talent and Performance Coordinator – Matt’s responsibilities were to identify talented players at different development stages, and provide advice when necessary to coaches and parents.  Matt developed and ran bespoke coach education for the satellite clubs across Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. Matt also helped to administer and coordinate and run the Regional Training/Talent ID Camps
  • Assisted on National Training Camps
  • Captained Great Britain under 12 Boys Teams in France and Uk
  • 26/9/2010 – Present  – Director for Active Away tennis holidays

Qualifications

  • 1998 – Gained LTA DCA qualification
  • 2004 – Gained LTA CCA qualification
  • 2010 – Gained LTA SPC qualification
